Beware of culinary temptations lurking around the Wyndham Grand. Pittsburgh’s Market Square, located just down the street, is home to a variety of eating establishments poised to fuel your part all weekend. Check out their blog for in depth articles on some of the newest eateries to open up shop - and be sure to bring your appetite to Tekko!
P.S. Don’t forget about the Wynnie G’s own eateries - the cilantro lime quesadilla and chicken fingers at the bar have already received rave reviews from our staff!
RAMPANT looks like they had a lot of fun making this video. We had a lot of fun watching it! They’ll be taking the stage at Tekkoshocon one month from today. Have you preregistered yet?

One of our Tekko IX artists recently shared a link with us we thought was pretty cool. Emily of Nightengale Needles has a livestream she uses to show the world the work and care that goes into her wares. When she’s not sewing, the channel autoplays past videos. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a fan artist, or where all of the merchandise in our Artists’ Alley comes from, this is totally worth a watch.
To see a full list of artists in the Tekko IX alley check out our website!

It takes a lot of guts to launch yourself into the unknown, and Reni Mimura has done just that. Born and raised in Japan, she started her music career there before deciding to take on New York. It was a big risk, but she’s earning herself lots of attention, both here and back home. This is a fifteen minute documentary produced by Japanese broadcasting company NHK for its English speaking viewers. In it, you’ll catch a glimpse of what Reni’s performances are like. You’ll also enjoy a rare look at a rehearsal, find out who writes her music, and learn how her costumes (her own designs!) move from concept to completed product. In addition, the video explores how the Japanese view of kawaii may differ from the American concept.
You’ll have plenty of chances to meet Reni at Tekko - she’ll be giving half hour performances on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday as well as hosting some panels. Be sure to say hi and wish her well as she continues her adventures far from home.

Richard Epcar’s resume is a little overwhelming. Not only is he Zangetsu, Xehanort, and Batou, but he also writes adaptations of series and directs. Still not enough for you? He’s done the same for films from several other countries, PLUS he travels overseas to oversee foreign adaptations of US films. This guy has personally performed several of my dream jobs.
Sometimes it’s fun to take a look a few years back. An exclusive interview with Richard Epcar was published by DVD Vision Japan back in 2005. Read on to find out a little more about some of his older projects - and about the film he didn’t think he’d get to work on!
Some fans find it difficult to connect with Japanese bands and their music because they feel that the language barrier obscures the meaning. Others aren’t sure what to make of the pageantry of many acts. Fortunately for us, the labels and US partners our Japanese acts work with are more than happy to help bridge the cultural gap. JapanFiles features an interesting interview with RAMPANT, who will be gracing the Tekkoshocon stage on Saturday night. In it, we learn how the band chose their name, which songs they are the most excited to perform live, the meanings behind several of their songs, and more! Take a minute to introduce yourself to our musical guests from Osaka and you’ll be even more excited to see them perform in their US debut.
Have you ever listened to the Tekkoshocast? We occasionally post podcasts featuring convention news as well as information from the anime, video game, manga, tokusatsu, and Japanese music fields. This is the most recent Tekkoshocast featuring our Japanese guests as well as a review of the live action Gantz film.
To the friends we met at Setsucon: as some of you probably know, our laptop kind of imploded about an hour and a half before the show ended. We’re recovering our data, hopefully including all of our awesome interviews with you, and hope to have the next Tekkocast up soon. Please look forward to it!
At Tekko meetings, we get to know each other, share news, work together in teams to plan different areas of the coming convention, and occasionally have Nerf wars. You, too, can learn to rest your elbows on the table and hold your chin as if enlightened. Fill out the staff app and join us February 20th on the fifth floor of Posvar Hall, Pitt Campus.
